What dyes do you use? Are they safe?I use fiber reactive dyes. They bind with the fabric, are colorfast, and don’t fade after washing. They are safe! They are considered non-toxic. You can even use them for infant clothing & chemically sensitive skin. (However, when using the dye in it’s powder form, you should work in a ventilated area and wear a mask) Even though they are not natural dyes, they are eco-friendly. They are classified as low impact dyes and meet the requirements of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100.

What is ice-dyeing?Ice-Dyeing is a dyeing technique that uses ice! It is similar to tie dyeing because you use the same kind of dye and you bind the fabric with rubber bands. However - instead of mixing the powder dyes with water, you place ice over the fabric and sprinkle powder dye over the top. As the ice melts, it creates a beautiful watercolor effect that is unique each time. Here at The Wildest Company, I mainly use this method to dye our apparel, along with a few other dyeing techniques like tub-dyeing. If you would like to learn how to ice dye, click here!

How do I wash my hand-dyed pieces?Hand-dyed pieces should be handled with care, but don't be scared! You got this! DO NOT USE PRODUCTS WITH BLEACH ON YOUR HAND-DYED PIECES! When in doubt, hand-wash and hang dry using a mild detergent, but there are exceptions! Read below. Silk & Rayon Pieces like Silk Scarves, Dusters, Robes, & Kimonos: These should be handled with care & caution since they are more delicate. All items should be hand washed with a mild detergent in cold water & hung to dry. Iron on low if needed. This is the best way to care for your pieces. Cotton t-shirts, Hoodies, Crewnecks & Dog Bandanas: These can be machine washed on a gentle cycle after hand-washing them the first few times to ensure there is no additional bleeding. They can then be tumble dried on low or hung to dry. Iron on low. Bamboo Socks: Hand-Wash or Machine Wash on gentle cycle with mild-detergent. Hang to Dry or Dry on Low. Iron on low if needed but not recommended. Throw Blanket: Machine wash on gentle cycle. Tumble dry, low. Iron medium temp. *For Roses Are Red & Blue Lagoon Colorways: Make sure you hand-wash multiple times to make sure no dye bleeds. The red/blue could turn other clothes pink/light blue so it is best to wash separately or make sure that it's not bleeding before washing with other items.

Will my piece shrink in the wash?During the dye process, I wash these pieces at least once (and up to three times) so the intial shrinking should have already taken place. However, studies show that clothes can shrink between the 1-5 initial washes. If you'd like to avoid the clothes shrinking, I recommmend hand-washing in cold water and hang dry.
